Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences • State university, founded in 1996 • Mission: developing as one of the most innovative regional centres for academic education and research • Offering professional bachelor and master’s programmes • 1300 Students, 109 staff members
International Cooperation I • Mobility programmes for studies and placements: Erasmus, HESP, Nordplus • Courses in English from Tourism, Political Science,Communication and Public Relations,Media Studies, Information Technologies and Business study fields for Incoming students • 76 active cooperation agreements with partneruniversities and organisations, out of these38 placement partners • Participation in networks: Atlas, Euprera, EAIE, Baltic Sea Network, EUCEN, EkoTekNord, Anna Lindh Foundation • Active staff training on international level • Guest lecturers – an important aspect of study programmes
International Cooperation II • Baltic International Summer School In 2011 it is the 13th university summer school with 3 programmes • International Conferences: VARE 2011 - Virtual and Augmented Reality in Education ; ATLAS 2011 - The Dualistic Experiment in Relationship: Landscape and Tourism • Active international project work – more than 40 projects since 2000: improvement of study and research infrastructure and library premises, development of curricula, research, regional development, development cooperation etc.
Student Mobility 2010./2011. • Erasmus studies - 54 • Erasmus placements – 40* (forecast) • Total – 94 • 7,2 % out of total student number (forecast) 2009./2010. • Erasmus studies - 46 • Erasmus placement - 61 • Total – 107 • 7,7 % out of total student number • 29% out of summer 2010 graduates have gained experience abroad either in studies or during practical placement
Possibilities for Placements Abroad • Erasmus scholarships • Nordplus scholarships • Work possibilities in Germany in cooperation with Employment Agency • Summer work (mainly in Spain and Greece) • 32 students used their scholarships for placements in new companies and 33 – in previous cooperation partners of the university (2009/2010)
Organisation of Placements • Information for students about placement opportunities: emails, intranet, posters, seminars, presentations • Information in intranet and webpage • Application deadlines: October 15 – winter/spring placements December 1 – summer placements March 15 – autumn placements • Data base with current cooperation partners • Meetings with Ex-Erasmus students • Professional guidance, raising self-awareness and self-confidence
Cooperation with employers • Continuous communication – before, during and after the student placement • Employers questionnaires • Monitoring at the work place • Involvement of faculty and teachers
