Role of YCCI Administration Overall oversight of all YCCI administrative components • Financial and operational oversight of the CTSA and Institutional support of YCCI • CTSA program development • Research infrastructure • Research and clinical space • Strategic planning and program evaluation • Community outreach and engagement • Development, Grants, and Gifts • Marketing, communications, and public affairs • Clinical investigations enterprise for the School of Medicine • Oversight of all center management and clerical staff (~90)
Major Programmatic Goals from Grant Application • To transform the clinical and translational research enterprise at Yale by markedly enhancing and integrating the resources that support the development and implementation of the highest quality clinical and translational research studies. 2. To create a true “One Stop Shopping” for all resources needed for the design, implementation & oversight of C&T studies
Strategic Focus of Yale CTSA Administration Grant Year One: • Hiring and training staff members • Integrating/Merging the administration of former GCRC into new center • New program development • Marketing and promotion of the center (not your same old GCRC) • Integrating GCRC, K12, and T32 into new structure Grant Year Two: • Restructuring component of old GCRC model to support a broader audience • Developing a new integrated program across multiple NIH center grants (DERC, Cancer Center) • Financial Strategic Planning
Challenges / Roadblocks • Establishing the new program • Building bridges and breaking down silos • Integrating the former GCRC and changing image - Maintaining all the positive of the old, while focusing on the new • Budget: getting past the $57M • Defining institutional roles: What should exist as a function of the center and what should be outside the focus area?
Successes and Early Wins • Consulting help for Tracking and Evaluation • Establishing new scholar program and integrating investigative medicine training program • Institutional and Department Support - Executive Committee for grant Year 1- Departmental Chairs and Deans (Medicine, Public Health and Nursing) • Faculty and Community excitement • Program Integration (Cancer Center & DERC)
