Properties of Light Light always travel in a STRAIGHT line.
Properties of Light A luminous object radiates light in ALL directions.
The Ray Model of Light Light Ray: a line and arrow representing the direction and straight-line path of light. Geometric optics: the use of light rays to determine the path of light when it strikes an object. Incident light: light emitted from a source that strikes an object
The Ray Model of Light Transparent object allows light to pass easily. Ex: clear glass Translucent object allows only some light to pass through. Ex: frosted glass. Opaque object does NOT allow light to pass through. Light instead is absorbed or reflected..
Flat Mirrors Image: reproduction of an object through use of light. Mirror: any polished surface that reflects an image. Reflection: the bouncing back of light from any surface.
Flat Mirrors Mirrors are made of a piece of glass with a back strip of thin, reflective film made out of silver or aluminum.
Flat /Plane Mirrors Incident Ray – the incoming ray that strikes a surface. Reflected Ray– the ray that bounces off a reflective surface
Normal line – the perpendicular line (90o) to a mirror surface. Angle of incidence ( <i ) – angle between incident ray and the normal Angle of reflection ( <r )– angle between reflected ray and the normal
