  7. State of the art and current activities • Technology installation is on-going • Alternative methodology for the demo developed (volunteers based) • Recruitment activities (closed in november) • Demo starts in february 03

  8. Conclusion • Increasing knowledge and information, acceptability becomes higher • Generally r.p. is seen as another taxneed to move the perception towards a regulation measure

Reliability Good solution for enforcement (e.g. RTZ control) but problems with RP Need to check all the plates that will be charged Big amount of work for urban police Tolling procedures [1] Need to link car plate to property (involvement of external actors) [2] Money collection (Legal aspects – Privacy - Lack of specific legislation) In progress Genoa has to test OCR technology Main issues: Solution in urban environment: OBE-based technology (?)

Political aspects • Strong opposition of many subjects (e.g. shopkeepers) • Need to perform a long and capillary dissemination activity, in order to improve knowledge and information • Need to have a deep political debate • Wide echo on newspapers • Press position coming from hostile/negative to neutral No clear link between political position and support/opposition to r.p. The debate is performed at a local level
