  4. Emergency Preparedness • UN and National Contingency Planning • Regional planning meeting to establish roles and coordination structures • RH training to staff and counterparts • Logistics security communication plans • Pre-positioning of RH supplies • Preparedness with partners

Acute Emergencies Safe Motherhood, including safe delivery, prenatal care, emergency obstetric care and family planning Treatment for sexual violence Treatment for STIs HIV prevention Sexual and gender-based violence prevention Psychosocial counselling Hygiene supplies Gender analysis For planning of humanitarian programmes For determination of service needs • Provides equipment, supplies & technical expertise to support • Collects & analyses demographic & health data on affected populations

  6. Acute Emergency Response: MISP Emergency RH support is guided by standards set by IAWG • Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) • RH assessments • Emergency RH supplies • Prevent excess neonatal • and maternal mortality • Treatment of sexual violence • HIV prevention • Sanitary supplies

  7. Emergency RH supplies To facilitate rapid response, UNFPA can deploy prepackaged kits of Reproductive Health equipment and supplies to: • UNFPA field offices • Other UN agencies • Red Cross affiliates • Governments • NGOs

  8. Chronic Humanitarian Situation • Assessment of RH and gender needs • RH information provision • RH supplies distribution • Training of NGO and local staff for delivery of services • HIV prevention • Gender based violence prevention • Counselling • Clinical management of rape

  9. Post-conflict Post Disaster recovery/rehabilitation • Renovation of health facilities • Counseling • Training • Equipment and supplies • Support to local NGOs • Demographic data, surveys

  10. Post Conflict Transition/DDR • RH, gender and human rights advocacy and training in DDR • HIV prevention • SGBV prevention • Provision of RH supplies • RH and gender rights education for host populations • Surveys

Instituional Strategy for integrating ICPD POA into preparedness, humanitarian response transition and recovery • 3-year plan with 2 components • Building knowledge and commitment re importance of gender and RH issues in crisis/transition • Improving technical and institutional capacities to incorporate ICPD into overall emergency preparedness, response and recovery

Component 1 – Building knowledge base & commitment • Intensified advocacy to sensitize partners • Mapping, collating and sharing of existing tools and resources • Developing additional tools and resources • Expanding partnerships for knowledge sharing and applied research to build evidence-based programmes

  13. Component 2 – Improving capacity to integrate ICPD into all preparedness, response & recovery • Building national capacity • Establishing technical expert networks and mechanisms for rapid deployment • Training of practitioners • Ensuring data/RH expertise as part of overall UN mechanisms
