  1. Middle Grades Practice Writing test What should I expect???

  2. What are the graders (R1 and R2) looking for when they grade my essay?

  3. Writing Topic Your writing topic will beone of the following: Persuasive – Use specific details and examples to persuade the reader that your thesis is correct. Expository – Explain your thesis with specific details and examples.

  4. MGWA Time Frame Planning/Prewriting 15 min Drafting 35 min Revising & Editing 20 min Final Draft 20 min Proofreading 10 min ** Suggested times for each section

  5. Planning/Prewriting 15 minutes After reading the prompt, begin planning your essay.

  6. Drafting 35 minutes After planning your essay, begin writing the rough draft. Minimum Length - 1 ½ pages (2 pages is the ideal) Indent at the beginning of each paragraph Include Topic Sentence for each paragraph Stay focused on one main idea for each paragraph

  7. Revising & Editing 20 minutes After writing the rough draft, read through the essay and make revisions. Check that all sentences are complete. Make sure that your writing is clear and organized. Make sure you have supported your thesis with details.

  8. Final Draft 20 minutes After revising, begin writing your final draft. Use a blue or black pen for final draft If you make a mistake, simply cross it out and keep writing.

  9. Proofreading 10 minutes After writing final draft, look over your essay carefully. If you see any mistakes, cross through the mistake one time and write the correction above the mistake.
