Vocabulary • Digit- An symbol used to make numerals. • Number line- A line with numbers placed in their correct position. • Less Than- The symbol < means less than (the symbol > means greater than). • Greater than- The symbol > means greater than (the symbol < means less than). • Round- Rounding means reducing the digits in a number while trying to keep it's value similar. • Dividend- The amount that you want to divide up. • Divisor- The number you divide by • Quotient- The answer after you divide one number by another

  3. Comparing, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, Dividing, Decimals • 2.1- Comparing decimals. • 2.2- Adding and subtracting decimals. • 2.3- Multiplying decimals. • 2.4- Dividing decimals.

  4. 2.2Adding And Subtracting Decimals • Examplesof Adding • 10.2+.2=10.4 • 56.9+25.2=82.1 • Examples of Subtracting • 22.3-11.1=11.2 • 10.9-6.3=4.6 • Rules • Always line up the decimal point.

  5. 2.3Multiplying Decimals • Examples of Multiplying • 2.2x2.2=4.44 • 3.5x5.2=18.20 • 5.5x10.2=56.10 • Rules • Don’t have to line up decimals, and count numbers behind decimals in the equation to know where to put the decimal in your answer unless there is a zero at the end then you take it off.

  6. 2.4Dividing Decimals • Examples of Dividing • 4.4/2.2=2 • 10.4/5.2=2 • 20.0/5.5=32.4545(repeating) • Rules • Always move the decimal point straight up. Also, if you have a decimal in your divisor then you move it over until you have no decimal, and you move it the same amount in the dividend.

  7. Chapter 2 Real World • Food service managers- Food service managers select and price the food on a restaurant's menu. • Construction managers –They use decimals to figure out volume and area. • Professional statistician- To figure out your averages for the season.
