  1. Hot Spot News Mrs. Matthews’ 2nd Grade Welcome!! I am super excited about this school year! It is a treat to have your child in my class. We have some great days of learning ahead of us. We Would Love to See You: PTA/Watch D.O.G.S Back to School BBQ PTA Reflections Art Program September 22nd PTA Reflection Art Program September 23rd PTA/Watch D.O.G.S BBQ 5pm-6:30pm Please join PTA and support our teachers and students!! Transportation Please send any transportation changes in with your student on a note including your signature. Unfortunately I cannot accept transportation changes over email. $Money$ Please be sure that all money sent in to school (except for lunch and ASP(ASP should be send in a yellow envelope) in a white school envelope with your child’s first AND last name, my name, the amount, and purpose. AgendasWe will use these each day to record homework and additional important information. Please sign your child’s agenda every night. The agenda is also a great tool for communication with me! Replacement agendas may be purchased in the office for $5. Important Dates: Fall Break September 15th-19th Progress Reports for 1stnine weeks go home September 10th Specials: 8:05-9:05 Lunch: 11:26-11:56 Snack: Students may bring a healthy snack

  2. Homework Your child will have homework every night Monday thru Thursday. Homework will consist of a homework journal that will have a homework journal inside. Please complete the night’s assignment in the homework journal. An additional math worksheet will be assigned occasionally. Students will receive spelling words every Monday. Your child must read for 20 mins every night and record the books they read on their reading log. Parent and teacher communication is very important to me. Email is a great way to communicate if you do not need immediate action or reply. I check my email twice a day. My email address is erica.matthews@cobbk12.org. I will send home completed work on Thursdays. Classroom Behavior Management System There is much to learn in second grade! We do not want to take time away from learning for inappropriate behavior. In our classroom, we have a behavior management system that is based on points. We have a vertical number chart and each child has a “clip” on the chart. Each day your child will start on a 3, which is a good day. Students move their clip based on behavior choices Clips are moved up for positive choices and going above and beyond. Likewise, clips can be moved down for negative choices and inappropriate behavior. It is important to understand that a 3 is a good number and worthy of recognition. We truly appreciate your support as we establish a positive learning community.
