Proverbial Wisdom From The Ancients Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. Prov 11:4
Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses… So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Lk 12:15, 21
But godliness actually is a means of great gain, when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.
But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil… 1 Tim 6:6-10a
Proverbial Wisdom From The Ancients An ungodly man digs up evil, and it is on his lips like a burning fire. Prov 16:27
But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Jas 3:8-10
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Col 3:8; 4:6
Proverbial Wisdom From The Ancients As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man. Prov 27:19
And He said to them, “Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?” (Thus He declared all foods clean.) And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.” Mk 7:18-23
…God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. 1 Sam 16:7b
Wisdom is appreciated only when it is applied in daily living. We show ourselves “wise” if we listen to the “wisdom from above.”
The Father’s word is “true wisdom” and sets at naught the foolishness of men. As we worship Him according to His word this morning, may we be drawn closer to the Author of eternal wisdom.
