  1. CrIMSS EDR Performance Assessment for Focus Day Sept. 20, 2012 Algorithm and Data Products Team March 12, 2013

  2. Operational Code Updates and Test Data • All operational code updates to MX 7.1 based on Mike Wilson’s note “MX7_by_upgrade.docx” • Test data sets include • CrIS SDRs: 2692 granules • ATMS-REMAP-SDRs: 2692 granules • Surface Pressure/Land Fraction data: 2692 files • ECMWF match-up validation data: 2656 files • 2656 granules are used for performance evaluation

  3. Offline Science Code Updates and Test Data • Offline science code updates to MX 7.1 based on Mike Wilson’s note “MX7_by_upgrade.docx” • Test data sets provided by STAR/NOAA • CrIS SDRs: 2673 granules • ATMS-REMAP-SDRs: 2698 granules • Surface Pressure/Land Fraction data: 2698 files • ECMWF match-up validation data: 2698 files • 3 CrIS SDR granules with read errors, so only 2670 granules are used for performance evaluation

  4. Focus Day Data Sets on the G-ADA vs. STAR/NOAA • Focus Day data sets are not exactly matched on the G-ADA vs STAR/NOAA • Latitude/Longitude, CrIS SDRs and ATMS-REMAP-SDRs are not exactly matched

  5. MW and MW+IR Retrieval Yields with Scene Classification from Offline Science Code Total granules: 2670

  6. MW and MW+IR Retrieval Yields with Scene Classification from G-ADA Code Total granules: 2656

  7. Yield Comparisons between STAR/NOAA and NG Offline ‘Mx7.1’ Science Code Are Similar for IR+MW Convergence IR+MW MW-only • Numbers taken from Mike Wilson’s STAR presentation (108 granule subset representing global conditions) • Investigating differences between QC(1) and QC(5)

  25. Summary: Evaluation of CrIMSS Focus Days on G-ADA Mx7.1 • Comparisons of profile statistics between NG offline ‘Mx7.1’ science code retrievals and Mx7.1 G-ADA retrievals show close agreement for Sept 20, 2012 focus day • Comparisons of percentage yields between NG offline ‘Mx7.1’ science code and STAR offline ‘Mx7.1’ science code similar for final MW+IR convergence that meet chi-square criteria • Comparisons of mapped ECMWF fields with offline ‘Mx7.1’ science code and Mx7.1 G-ADA show close agreement, although Mx7.1 typically warmer and dryer in some regions • Next Step: Processing Feb 3, 2013 focus day on G-ADA with all Mx7.1 code updates; G-ADA processing of CrIS and ATMS remapped SDRs complete
