EUROPEAN COMMISSION VISION FOR DESIGN • It is the European Commission’s “vision that by 2020, design should be a fully acknowledged, well-known, well-recognised element of innovation policy across Europe, at European level, at national level and at regional level”. • Head of Innovation Policy Unit, European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry, speaking at the SEE Conference, 29 March 2011

  5. DESIGN IS A SOURCE OF INNOVATION • Design is a proven source of innovation but there are obstacles to its uptake in companies, society and the public sector.

  6. WHAT IS DESIGN? • Design is an approach to problem-solving that is creative, user-centred and viable.

  7. EDII European Design Innovation leadership Board (EDII) Launched: 2011 Aims: To raise the awareness of design as a driver of innovation in Europe. To enhance its role as a key discipline to bring ideas to market transforming them into user- friendly and appealing products, processes or services by enterprises and public services in the EU.
