7. Fabulous Finish To conclude our topic we will be having a Pirate Day. This will be a fantastic opportunity to pull all our learning together in this fun event.

8. Supporting Your Child • Reading: • Support your child’s fluency and understanding by listening to them read for at least 10 minutes a day. • Please complete your child’s reading record so we know that they have read and what they are reading. • Maths: • Support your child in learning their times tables and related division facts. • Cook and measure ingredients for a meal or a cake. • Encourage your child to tell the time. • Daily counting to improve number fluency.

9. Supporting Your Child • Spellings: • Each week your child will receive spellings. They will be tested each Wednesday afternoon. • Support your child in learning their weekly spellings. • Writing: • Encourage lots of discussion to develop their vocabulary. • Write birthday and Christmas cards. • Try and write something everyday no matter how small. • Look out for the word of the week and encourage pupils to use it in the correct context.

10. Home Learning • Each week, your child will receive ‘Home Learning’ tasks for English and/or maths. • They will be given activities based on the previous week’s learning. • Please encourage your child to challenge their thinking. • Home Learning tasks are given out on a Friday and are due in the following Wednesday. • Please encourage your child to participate in the school’s ‘Maths Challenge.’ Each fortnight there will be a new challenge to be won. • In addition to this, we would like to see your child participating in the half termly creative project, which ends with your child’s work presented in the ‘gallery’ held in the hall at the end of the school day.

11. P.E kit Games: Hockey - Wednesday P.E: Gym – Friday For all physical education lessons, it is expected that your child will have the correct equipment. P.E Kit: Navy shorts T-shirt, which is their team colour Plimsolls or trainers (for outdoor work) Warm clothing in winter months such as a tracksuit. If they have an ear piecing it must be removed or your child must use tape to cover their ears.

12. Healthy Minds • Please ensure that your child has a clearly named water bottle in school. • The children will get a healthy snack each day. • All lunch boxes should not include sweets or a fizzy drink. • At Key Stage 1, all pupils are entitled to a free school meal.
