  2. What is Mobile Technology? • Mobile technology is exactly what the name implies - technology that is portable.

  3. What are some examples of mobile technology? • Examples of mobile IT devices include: • laptop and netbook computers • palmtop computers or personal digital assistants • mobile phones and 'smart phones' • global positioning system (GPS) devices • wireless debit/credit card payment terminals

  4. Mobile devices can be enabled to use a variety of communications technologies such as: • wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) • Bluetooth • data networking services for mobile phones • dial-up services • virtual private networks

  7. A high level of competition and a decrease in prices have been able to reduce the digital divide in mobile telephone, substantially. and availability of 3G is expected to change this over the coming years

  8. Relevance to Education • Many of the educational web sites as well as the larger LMS platforms now have mobile apps. • This will provide educational opportunities in countries that do not have well developed broadband resources.
