SKILLS TO BE COVERED IN CLASS POSTIONS SKILLS PASSING PUCK PROTECTION SHOOTING STICK HANDLING TEAM WORK • GOALIE (1) • DEFENSE (2) • WINGS (2) • CENTER/FORWARD (1) • Total of 6 players on the ice/floor.
HOCKEY POSITIONS • GOALIE-(1)Only person to pick up the puck and allowed in the goal crease. Plays close to the goal. • DEFENDER- (2) The last line of defense before the goalie. Plays up to the half court line • WINGS-(2)Offensive players who try to score. Plays on opponents side of court. • CENTER/FORWARD -Helps the defense and the offensive players. Covers all of the floor.
SKILLS • WRIST SHOT-Using a flicking motion to move the puck, the stick remains in contact with the floor until follow through (roll your wrist over to keep stick blade below knees)

SKILLS • STICK HANDLING-using both sides of the blade to move the puck down the court.
SKILLS CONTINUED • FOREHAND- When a player shoots or passes with the bottom hand PUSHING the stick forward. • BACKHAND-When a player shoots or passes with the bottom hand PULLING the stick. • CLEARING THE PUCK-Getting the puck out of your zone to prevent your opponents from scoring. • CENTERING THE PUCK-Passing to a teammate who is in front of the opponent’s goal.
SKILLS CONTINUED • GAME PLAY:
HEAD COACH RESPONSIBILITIES • Designate positions (equal playing time) • Organize your players and run practices • Know the rules of the game • Demonstrates fair play • Lead your team positively • Report score to teacher • Respect all players on your team • Respect other teams
ASSISTANT COACH RESPONISIBLITIES • Assist Head Coach when needed. • Take attendance for your team • Lead your team positively • Fill in for any area where needed • Respect team mates • Respect all players
EQUIPMENT MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES • Help organize team • Check the schedule (i.e.. Location/ home or away etc…) • Report back to head coach and team • Get and return jerseys if needed • Get sticks (ask teammates to help) • Make sure all members of your team are wearing their goggles at all times
ATHLETIC TRAINER RESPONSIBILITIES • Lead and demonstrate safe, appropriate and a variety of exercises for warm up. • Provide leadership for the teams mental and physical conditioning. • Assist in minor injuries and notify your teacher.
To start the game • In floor hockey- opposing centers “face off” to begin in the game. If there is a Referee for your game the puck is dropped on the floor between the two sticks. • Players from both teams will spread out around the center, or be in their position. • Each team will have the following positions: 1 goalie, 2 wings, 2 defense, 1 forward ( Play your position)
GAME PLAY • After a goal is scored the puck is returned to center floor and a face off occurs. • If the puck is saved by the goalie, the goalie passes to a team mate. Do not throw the puck. • Shots on goal may not be taken from your defensive side.
GAME PLAY CONTINUTED • If the puck goes out of bounds - play stops and there is a face off where the puck went out of bounds. If it’s undecided who touched it last than a face off where it went out. • If there is an injury the game stops and the athletic trainer assess the situation. A face off will restart the game.
PENALTIES • High sticking, tripping, pushing, ETC….. Will result in 2 minutes in a penalty box. (penalties will be served in there entirety) • If the opposing team plays the puck in the goalie crease resulting in a goal-The goal is NO good. • If the opposing team plays the puck in the crease then play stops and the goalie starts with possession of the puck.
PENALTIES CONTINUED • Penalties that occur away from the play will result in a game suspension.
NON-PLAYING DAY • Show up to your game/area on time with all your supplies needed. • Start games on time. • Record and collect all data neatly and accurately. • Be flexible • Be strong and fair in your job.
SPORTS REPORTER • Gather information on both teams, example-team name, roster, stats, ETC… • Watch the game and take note on great shots and plays. • Record and collect data from the game. • Include the team names, quotes, final score, clip art….
SCORE KEEPER • Be at your game on time • Have the materials you need • Pay attention to the game • Keep accurate records • Know who is on your court. - Report final score to both head coaches
REFEREE • Be on the right court-On time • Get the game started right away • Be fair • Be strong and loud on your calls
