Issues cont- • High taxation – due to multiple taxation • Post harvest loses- due to improper handling, unsuitable storage facilities and low processing capacity • Inadequate collaboration with stakeholders • Inadequate regulatory framework • Inadequate credit scheme • Inadequate information on the market dynamics
Possible solutions • Formulate policies governing taxation of products • Capacity build farmers on mango husbandly, marketing and home based processing- standards of mango(K-GAP,SPS) • Promote farmer to farmer innovation • Promote formation of farmer marketing groups • Provision of subsidized farm inputs • Govt has factored in Agricultural Development Fund
Possible solutions-cont • Establishment of mango value chain council- all relevant parts within the value chain be considered by donors • Capacity building to the farmer by PPP • Introduce varieties demanded by market • Appropriate technology generation – in areas of husbandry and value addition e.g KIRDI and others – Processing should be done at production level in order to minimize marketing costs. • Next forum to be mango business meeting • Gok to provide accurate and useful information to all stakeholders
