How do I find Psychology Journal Articles at SDSU? • Search PsycINFO for a specific topic • Links within PsycINFO will lead you to full text (either in print or electronic format). Look for the “Find Full Text” button
What if SDSU does not own the material I need? • For books: Circuit and Link+ • For journal articles and dissertations: Interlibrary Loan • How long will it take? • Books: 1-5 days • Articles: 1-2 weeks

Pros and Cons of Searching Computer Databases • Pros: Search can be fast, efficient, and remote • Cons: • Information Overload • Lack of Terminology Standardization • Solutions?
Solution to Information Overload: Boolean Logic • Necessary to narrow down searches • And, Or, Not • AND: Narrows search • OR: Broadens search • Example: Blue eyes AND Brown hair
Solution to Lack of Language Standardization • Problem: Information Seeker and Database Indexer often use different terminology • Solutions: • Use Synonyms • Use Special Thesaurus or Database Index
Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms • Includes definition of terms and suggestions of terms to use • Manic depression, manic depressive psychosis, bipolar mood disorder, bipolar affective disorder = Bipolar disorder • Bonding = Attachment behavior
