What was Kudzu going to fix? • Kudzu was originally brought to America from Japan to prevent soil erosion • Kudzu absorbs the nitrogen in the soil and causes it to grow rapidly.
What is Kudzu? • Kudzu is a plant that is native to Japan • Kudzu was both a pretty decoration and a cheap forage crop in the South. • The large amount of sunlight and humidity helped it spread incredibly fast. • In America, the plant has no predators so it was able to keep growing. • The genus species name for Kudzu is: • Puerariathunbergiana • It is in the legume family • It was originally developed to prevent soil erosion but people also thought it could be used as a form of hay and this provided jobs such as hay bailing, transporting the hay etc.
Where was Kudzu originally found? • It was originally from Japan but shown to the people of Japan at the Philadelphia Exposition in 1876
What does Kudzu look like? What was it used for? • It was a purple plant that's aroma was similar to a grape • Kudzu is full of chemicals, and the most amazing use of this vine may be as a medicine. In Asian countries, kudzu has been used as a treatment for alcoholism and many other diseases as a home remedy.
How do they plan on destroying it? • Right now careful studies are being made about the possibility of using biological controls. A biological control is a natural enemy, such as a predator, parasite, or disease, introduced to slow down an exotic species.
