LEARNING OBJECTIVES • 1. Meet students from other European countries to learn about different countries • 2. Provide opportunities to communicate in English
LEARNING METHOD • Tandem learning • In tandem language learning, two people with different mother tongues cooperate to help improve each other’s knowledge of the new language and culture. • Email communication
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION • According to anthropologists Edward T. Hall and Mildred Reed Hall “…the single greatest barrier to business success is the one erected by culture". Students from different nationalities will be working together via email to exchange information about working in their partners’ country
Topic introduction: “Cultural misunderstanding” Class work: students elaborate lists with 10 pieces of advice to avoid misundersstanding for the “foreign” professional. Individual work: exchange of email messages to find out about email partner’s peculiarities In teams: students who have worked about same country meet and draw conclusions Each team will do an oral presentation of results to class For evaluation purposes each student will write a Primary Research Project on findings.
