  1. 1st Peter Ch. 3 Family and other Relations in the Lord When the going gets tough… The trueChristian gets going

  2. Something to keep in mind ALWAYS! 32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. (Luke 6) Love, Kindness, Forgiveness… etc.

  3. Part I of III… Wives 1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

  5. Part I of III… Wives broken down • Likewise = in the same way / manner 1st Peter Ch.2: Servants to submit to their masters regardless of whether or not they deserve it. Not only the good and gentle ones but also the harsh ones.

  6. Part I of III… Wives broken down Many wives are very happy to submit to their husbands but only when they like / agree with their husbands’ judgment , opinion, decision. BUT. Submit = to defer to another's judgment, opinion or decision  so it’s already implying that she does not agree… when the going gets tough Caveat… Her submission to him is a direct result of her submission to God  She should NOT submit if it goes against God.

  7. Part I of III… Wives 1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conductaccompanied by fear.

  8. Part I of III… Wives broken down Chaste = virtuous, undefiled, stainless, pure in style, decent, free from obscenity. Since Adam’s time, a misbehaving person is always looking for someone else to blame. If a wife is reacting in a Christian way to a misbehaving husband (even/especially when he does not deserve it)  he has no one to blame other than himself.  will eventually open the door for him to question / examine himself. Without a word = without preaching / nagging... This includes without a word of body language as much as possible. By all means present your opinion, but with patience and wisdom in manner, style, word choice and timing

  9. Before we feel so bad for the wife…The Tremendous Power of a Wife / Mother Power to affect and shape a Church / nation • 2nd Timothy 1:5 • when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. • 2nd Chronicles 29:1-2 • Hezekiah • "Hezekiah became king when he was twenty-five years old, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah." • 1st Samuel Ch. 1-3 • Hanna raised Samuel for only 3 years and would visit him once or twice a year after that.

  10. Part I of III… Wives 1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conductaccompanied by fear.

  11. Part I of III… Wives broken down Typically, the wife would not submit to her husband because of some sort of fear that he will mess up. When a wife submits (even though she disagrees) simply because she trusts in God and wants to obey God, this is very precious in the sight of God and He will bless and reward this obedience / Christian behavior. Fear = revere/love/respect Vs. Fear = terror So her "fear" of the Lord, will help her to "fear" her husband because she does not have any "fear". 

  12. Her Motivation • That "this is very precious in the sight of God“ and He is Faithful and True and WILL reward those who trust in Him and obey Him. • Natural consequence… St. John Chrysostom said “48 Through the obedience of the wife to her husband, he becomes meek toward her... 51 Through love, all attack is abolished; if he is atheist, he will accept the faith, and if he is Christian, he will become a better Christian."

  13. A Reminder Againto keep in mind ALWAYS! 32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. (Luke 6) Love, Kindness, Forgiveness… etc.

  14. Part II of III… Husbands 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. Likewise = husbands are to do what follows regardless of whether the wives deserve it or not. Remember how our Role Model dealt, and continues to deal with, His Bride whether she deserves it or not.

  15. Part II of III… Husbands broken down 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with themwith understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. Understanding = knowledge, comprehension, discernment, sympathy, empathy, consideration, kindness, compassion, tolerance, indulgence. In other words… with wisdom and love To learn and understand where she’s coming from, how she thinks and feels; her needs… etc.

  16. Part II of III… Husbands broken down 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with themwith understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. To honor = to respect, to revere, to show courteous regard, to conform to the request of. The weaker vessel ≠ the lesser vessel: A fine china tea cup vs. a plant pot.

  17. Part II of III… Husbands broken down 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with themwith understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. Heirs  she is also a child of God just like me  God Himself out of His love, deemed her worthy of His Son's incarnation, passion and death  So if she is worthy of His honoring and loving her like this, then she is by all means worthy of my honoring and loving her like this as well!

  18. His Motivation 7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with themwith understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. • If he doesn't do this, his prayers WILL BE HINDERED! • When newly wed, the wife is happily willing to give herself up to her husband. If he continues to honor and love her with wisdom and discernment, she will continue to happily give herself up for him; she will happily run to the end of the world and back for him and will happily do anything for him, no matter how difficult.

  19. Part III of III 8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

  20. Part III of III 8Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. Finally = Wa-lnehayah

  21. Part III of III 8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. A couple ‘of one mind’ from the New Testament: Priscilla and Aquila… As one…: • They Hosted St. Paul and built tents with him, as they were also tent makers (Acts 18:2) • They Sailed with St. Paul to different destinations (Acts 18:18) • They Took Apollos aside and set him straight when he was preaching only the baptism of John (Acts 18:26) • They “Risked their necks” for St. Paul (Romans 16:3) • They Held church at their house (1st Corinthians 16:19)

  22. Part III of III 8 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;9 not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

  23. All of you be of one mind! Valéry Giscard d'Estaing (1974-1980) “How can I rule a nation that has 249 kinds of cheese?” Jesus prayed in John Ch. 17 "21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me." There is only one way for us to all be of one mind, which is to have the mind of Christ; to want only His will.

  24. all things work together Romans 8:28 Work together = Gk. ‘Synergeos’ Synergy = when the combined, cooperative action produces more than the sum of the actions of the individuals combined. Examples: • Salt: made of two poisons sodium and chlorine, but when combined together, it produces the most important spice and preservative. • The muscles of the body: Elbow / finger / shoulder etc. when they work synergistically they can lift more than the combination of what each muscle can do; they can lift up a child or give a hug etc. Same thing with us as members of one body, the Body of Christ… When we are all of one mind, we can work synergistically for God's glory and for a much greater benefit for each member. … HOW DO WE GET TO THIS POINT?

  25. Am I a true Christian? 32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. (Luke 6)

  26. Glory be to God Forever, Amen.
