TRANSPORT AGENDA SITE AGENDA • Reducing CO2 emissions by achieving Fewer & Friendlier miles • Fewer miles - examples • - Load fill ex factory and MDC • - Case and Pallet fill (Project POP) • - Network change (centralise distn, • co-packing and reduced o/s) • - Reduce empty running (back haul & transport collaboration) • Friendlier miles (reduce CO2 for same miles) • eg – Improve fuel economy • - Euro V engines • - Increased use of bio diesel • Light Bulb replacement • Cardboard recycling • Site recycling • Waste reclamation • Support in the community • AHU Replacement • VRF Initiative

Awarded 2008 Awarded 2006 Awarded 2007 Environmental Programme • Between 2006 and 2008 • - Transported miles have reduced by 2.7m. • - CO2 reduction of 20.5% (4,700 tonnes). • Submitted paper to Motor Transport 2008 awards • - Short-listed in both categories entered. • Programme includes many initiatives and these have been been well publicised by IGD and FDF. • Bio diesel - All UB vehicles now operating on 10% bio-diesel. • Transport providers also moved onto 10% sourced from same fuel supplier. - Combined fleets of 160 tractor units. - Annual diesel consumption 6.1m litres i.e. 610k litres of bio-diesel. • UB generated 770 tonnes of waste vegetable oil last year – 620k litres when converted • to bio. - United Biscuits are therefore using all its waste vegetable oils as bio-diesel. • Environmental impact of change. - CO2 reduction of 1,400 tonnes – 6% saving -equivalent of saving 1.04m miles.

Awarded 2008 Awarded 2006 Awarded 2007 Environmental Programme • Warehouse lighting • Benefits delivered with the introduction of energy saving bulbs installed in both warehouses. • FY benefit £22k with a C02 reduction estimated at 120t. • PIR lighting included in all projects, offices, canteen etc. • Waste • Tighter controls of waste have been installed with focus across the sites. 71.7% recycled giving a • cumulative benefit of £17.5k. • More focus in the year ahead and ensuring all elements are captured including waste oil, tyres, • rags etc. • VRF for office area, proposal underway to install a solution with under 2 year payback. 82% reduction • in C02 and a potential of £65k benefit. • Reviewing opportunities of replacement AHU's which serve the MDC warehouse. Aiming to remove the • need for natural gas. • Communications • - Site involvement through heightening awareness and information sharing. • - Notices and reminder posters on notice boards across the sites.
