ASTURIES • Asturies is very linked to Europe’s history. • The region was first a Celtic country, later roman and gothic, and in the Arabic invasion was the first Christian kingdom. • After the approval of the Spanish Constitution in 1978, Asturies has become one of the 17 Autonomous Communities of Spain. • The asturian economy has received many funds from the European budget, specially for infrastructures in harbours, airport, motorways and high speed railways.

THE UNIVERSITY OF OVIEDO • Founded in 1608 by archbishop Valdés Salas • It has three campus at Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres • The University is organised in Departments, Schools and Faculties • It has around 35,000 students in 2005
