My Expectations of Students • Be challenged at a high level • Study daily, 10-15 minutes • Utilize technology • Keep notebook up to date, organized, and neat • Complete & turn assignments in on time • Attend tutorials as needed
My Expectations of Parents • Be involved • Examine/discuss notebook with child • Ask what was learned today…don’t accept the answer, “nothing.” -- make them be specific • Guide without doing/ask questions • Check website and ask questions • Check grades on Parent Self Serve • Work together with me as a team to encourage success for the student
I… • Have high expectations for ALL students • Keep grades updated regularly • Send home progress reports for averages below 75 • Keep my website calendar up to date • Post digital information on my ‘Notes and Handouts’ web page • Can best be reached through email
My Web Site • http://greenslime.info • Includes: • My schedule • Contact information • Tutorial information • Assignment calendar • Notes and handouts • Links to the textbook online, Virtual Class, and other great sources
Grades • Check grades using • Parent Self-serve (Documentation) • Progress report will be emailed or sent via student if average falls below 75 • 10-15 daily grades & 3-5 major grades are taken each 9 weeks
Homework • Study* notes 7 days a week • Study* at least 10-15 minutes per night • Complete lab reports • Anything not completed in class * Study: to actively engage in review of material…thismeans DO something with the material, not just read it; i.e., make flash cards, write quiz questions, have a parent quiz you, add pictures, etc.
Late Work • By district policy • Late daily work will not be accepted for points, but is still examined • Late major work will be 15 points off per day late (up to 2 days) unless other terms are agreed upon • However… • If late daily work is brought to tutorials the next morning, I will take it for a maximum of a 70; after that, work will still be done for no points • If late major work is brought to tutorials, I will only take off 5 points for the 1st day, 10 points for the 2nd day, and 15 points for the 3rd day
Tutorials • Monday - Friday from 8:10-8:50 A.M. (Reminder Binder must be signed the day before if entering through cafeteria; otherwise, knock on my back door) • Monday - Friday from 7:30-8:05 A.M. (knock on my back door) • Assigned duties/meetings/training could alter this schedule • Official Blalack Science tutorials occur on Wednesdays from 8:10 – 8:50 A.M. • Required attendance on Wednesdays if student is failing
Failed Exams & Projects • Students who fail major grades MUST… • correct and return their test with a parent signature • Attend tutorials for reteaching (next morning) • Attend tutorials to retake test (highest grade will be recorded) • Have corrections, reteaching, and retest completed within 3 days
Absences • Check Calendar and Notes web pages • Check ABSENCE Folder in back of class upon return • Copy Instructions, Process skills, & Notes from classmate • Check with me if you have questions • Preferred time-during tutorials • Have 1 day per day absent to make up work without late penalties
Science Portfolio Notebook • Goes home EVERY day • Kept neat and organized (per given instructions [p.2]) • Counts as a major grade each quarter • Method of communication between home and school…look through it from time to time, especially Graded Work section • Bring to class daily
