Mr. Wall Science 8Welcome In our classroom, the expectation is that we do things the correct way. We listen attentively. We follow directions. We pursue excellence in everything we do—because excellence transfers from the simple and mundane to more important things like scholarship, kindness, and self-respect. I have high expectations for each of you and want you to grow and become productive, self reliant, lifelong learners who find success in whatever endeavors you pursue.
Class Rules (Winning Behaviors): • Arrive on time with all required materials • Follow directions. • Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat. • Respect yourself and others. (No put downs or name calling.) 5. Respect the Environment. (No eating, drinking, or personal grooming in class. Follow laboratory safety guidelines.)
Discipline (Consequences) • First Offense: Verbal Warning (Recorded on daily seating chart and in computer log) • Second Offense: Sent to Refocus Area (Letter completed and then return to seat) • Third Offense: Student Exchange (Sent to Room B1) • Fourth Offense: Referral Severe: Immediate Referral
Beginning the Period • After greeting Mr. Wall at the door, walk into the room quietly and check the daily agenda on the right front board to see if any books or materials are needed for the lesson. If materials are needed get them out. • Sharpen pencil at this time if needed. • Start on bell ringer (warm-up) on the screen and work independently (no talking).
Tardy Student • Being late to class means you are not in your seat when the bell rings (running in the door as the bell rings, being outside of class when the bell rings or dashing for your seat from the door when the bell rings means you are late.) • If you are late, you will be given a late slip to fill out and will serve detention the following day.
Quieting a Class • When I need your attention for any reason, I will ring the bell. • When you hear the bell, you will become quiet and look at me with your eyes and listen with your ears.
Getting Teacher’s Attention • To get the teacher’s attention, raise your hand and wait to be called on. (Blurting out is rude and will not be tolerated.) • If, during class discussion, you are not called on, patiently wait until it is your turn. (Do not talk over another person.)
Bathroom Passes • During the first 15 minutes and last 15 minutes of the class period, bathroom passes will not be given. • If you need permission to use the bathroom, raise your hand and wait to be called on. I will sign your agenda and you will carry it with you when you leave the room. It is your hall pass. • You will also sign out and in on the logbook.
Late / Incomplete Work • If you do not have your homework or it is incomplete or sloppy, you will be required to come to tutoring at lunch to make up your work. • If you have multiple missing assignments and/or assignments with low scores, tutoring is available to assist you Monday – Friday at lunch in room D9.
Student Returning After Being Absent • When a student returns after being absent, he/she will go to the black crate and retrieve the makeup work. • The student will be given one day for each day absent to make up the work and receive full credit. If work is turned in after this, it will be considered late and only receive 50% credit.
Paper Heading • Students are required to put a heading on all papers turned in during this class. • The heading must include these four items in this order: • Name (First Last) • Science 8 • Period # • Date (Month/Day/Year)
Completed Work • Completed work (homework/classwork) is to be turned into the silver inbox on the table by the door at the start of the period. • If a student did not complete the work then they will fill out the form for late/incomplete work and place it in the inbox. • On several occasions, I will be collecting classwork from each person individually.
Corrected Work • Corrected work will be filed in student folders and stored for each quarter. • If a student wants to review their work they can retrieve it from their folder.
Movement of Paper • Papers are handed out by row. The first person in the row will take one and pass them back. • Papers are collected by having each person in the row hand her/his paper forward.
Movement of Students • When traveling from place to place outside, students will travel quietly in a single file line. The line will stay compact with one student directly behind the other and not spread out. • Student movement in the classroom will be as follows: Rows will be dismissed by Mr. Wall at the end of the period.
Dismissal Procedure • Write down your homework assignment in your agenda. • Look around your area and throw away any trash in the trash can nearest your desk. • Return any classroom materials borrowed or used for the day’s lesson to the proper place. • Gather all your materials, place them in their proper place, and wait to be dismissed by Mr Wall.
