Department of Defense and Pollution Prevention • Co-operative P2 partnership between Michigan DoD facilities, EPA and MDEQ • Established on April 22, 1999 (w/Charter) • Based on similar P2 partnerships in other Region V states (Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin) • Driven by Strategic Plan; including Vision, Mission Statement and Goals

Participating DoD Organizations • U.S. Army TACOM • U.S. Army Garrison - Detroit • RE Command TARDEC • U.S. Army Garrison – Selfridge ANGB • Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center • Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS) • Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS) • Michigan Army National Guard • Army Reserves - Michigan • 110 Fighter Wing – Battle Creek ANGB • Selfridge Air Guard Base • EPA Region V • 927th Air Reserve Wing – Selfridge ANGB • Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) • GSA

  4. Environmental Alliance Activities • Quarterly Workgroup Meetings • P2 Technology Transfer (Info Sharing) • Promote P2 Workshops and Seminars • Communicate through DoD/Michigan ListServe • Prepare Case Studies & Fact Sheets • Conduct Opportunity Assessments

  5. P2 Recognition Awards • Modeled after other Region V state partnerships • Nominee’s can be either an individual or group (team) • Nomination Forms processed by DEQ • P2 Recognition Award Certificate prepared by DEQ and awarded by DoD facility • Potential for case study development

  6. Technology Transfer • Promoting “P2 Success Stories” through DoD Env. Alliance Web page • P2/Regulatory Workshops • Case Study Development • Workgroup Discussion

  7. DoD Facility “Site Tours” • “Bio-remediation” parts washer at Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center (AGB) • HSMS/“pharmacy” tour at Battle Creek AGB • “Opportunity Assessments” at various DoD facilities state-wide

  8. DoD Environmental Alliance – a Collaborative Partnership • Bridging the regulatory gap between DoD and state environmental agencies with proactive P2 efforts and environmental management systems
