Why undergraduate training in PH? • As educated members of society, all undergraduates should be well-versed in public health and the healthcare system, in general. • Many accredited schools of public health currently offer undergraduate degrees (e.g. USC, Johns Hopkins, Ohio State, Yale, St. Louis, etc). • Provides better ‘foundation training’ for students interested in myriad health careers. 51st PIHOA - Nov 2011

ASPH Undergraduate Public Health Learning Outcomes – Model Version 1.0 (2011) • Target Audience • All undergraduate students at institutions of higher education • Goal • Express what every undergraduate, as an educated member of society, should know and the able to do to promote population health both locally and globally • Domain 1 – Knowledge of human cultures and the physical and natural world as it relates to individual and population health • Domain 2 – Intellectual and practical skills • Domain 3 – Personal and social responsibility • Domain 4 – Integrative and applied learning 51st PIHOA - Nov 2011

Programs • Undergraduate programs being developed • BA in Public Health (Health Science track) • BA in Public Health (Social Science track) • Projected start-date Fall 2013 • UHM currently offers the Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MS), Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) • MPH with specialization in Indigenous Health • MD/MPH (Epidemiology) 51st PIHOA - Nov 2011

BA in Public Health • Health Science track – places an emphasis on epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, and prerequisites for healthcare specializations (e.g. medicine, pharmacy, nursing, physical therapy, etc.) • The curriculum is designed to highlight the skills required for the upcoming changes to the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) • Social Science track – places an emphasis on health policy and management and social and behavioral health sciences 51st PIHOA - Nov 2011
