  3. 2019 UMM Vision & Values • Vision Statement: Men building God’s Kingdom led by the Holy Spirit through Christian fellowship • Values (what manner of men are we?) • Service: James 1:22, “But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” KJV • Excitement: 2 Tim 1:6-7…stir into flame the strength and boldness that is in you, …For the Holy Spirit, God’s gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them.” TLB • Teamwork: Mark 3:13-19

  4. Issues Effecting Commitment • Men represent only 30% of church attendees • 10 of 16 Districts “active”, 2or more are one man shows, 2 or 3 are Teams.  • Growing old and dying out. Where are Gen X, Millennials? • Blackstone Conference Center closure • Nieuwhoff-Unwilling to change: smug, arrogant, judgmental, bitter, divisive, angry • Sexism, racism, ageism, elitism, conservatism, homophobia. Talking politics • SC Model: Bishop brings DS’s, who bring pastors, who bring flocks • Decline in Wesleyan Building Brothers (leadership training) participation • ROMEO- are we about what we do and whose we are, or what we eat? • Relevance- why do we even need a men’s ministry? • Church divided over human sexuality- impending separation • Isolationism vs. connectionalism • …We know that we all possess knowledge. But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. 1 Corinthians 8:1 NIV

  5. Proposed New Conference UMM Organization • Reduce operating costs: • Beacon, Constant Contact • Ministry Advocates w/o ministry funding • Alternate means for funding admin costs • Partner with Districts/Regions for annual retreat
