Club Meetings • Club meetings held weekly or bi-weekly • 30 minutes of nutrition education/activity • 30 minutes of physical activity
Agreements • Parental Consent for BMI measurements • A signed agreement to ensure parent/guardian support of the program.
Goal &Objectives Goal: To increase the prevalence of healthy lifestyles for children and families. Objectives: • Increase knowledge of the importance of healthy lifestyles. • Increase healthy behaviors through healthy eating and daily physical activity.
NutritionLessons • Designed for kids! • Interactive discussion and activities. • Each session activities are performed to increase knowledge of subject matter. • Quarterly Food & Physical Activity Diary to evaluate behavior change.

Evaluation Methods • Body Mass Index. • Overall Pre-test & Post-test. • Each lesson included a Pre and Post-test. • Food Frequency Questionnaires and Food and Physical Activity Diaries.
GHKC/ 3-A-Day Dairy • Conducted in one community site and three after school programs. • 174 children were enrolled. • Average of 88 children participated each week.
GHKC/ 3-A-Day Dairy Results/Outcomes • Two winners from the essay contest that was advertised in five area schools. • 7% increase in knowledge. • InitialFinal 14% overweight 16% overweight • Promotional PSA’s were recorded for two local radio stations.
GHKC at Alimacani Elementary • Conducted in a local elementary school • The GHKC was taught in conjunction with the physical education classes. • 326 children were enrolled in the GHKC.
GHKC at Alimacani Elementary • Two classes won the poster contest. • 22% increase in knowledge from weekly sessions. • 16% overall improvement in knowledge from the initial Pre-test to the final Post-test. • InitialFinal 13% overweight 10% overweight
Lessons Learned • Use a consistent group of participants. • Introduce food items in a colorful and appetizing manner. • Be Flexible
