Education • Went to Howard University and was a member of Zeta Phi Pi Sorority Inc. • Hurston attended North Carolina Central University
Education (cont.) • Left Howard University and went to Barnard college on a full Scholarship and received her B.A. in anthropology at 36. • Studied at Columbia University for 2 years • Further her education at North Carolina College for Negroes (now North Carolina Central University)
Adulthood • Married Herbert Sheer in 1927. They divorced in 1931. • Married Albert Price in 1949 and ended a few months later.
Literary Career • Hurston is best known for her book Their Eyes Were Watching God (1937). • In 1989 PBS aired a drama based on Hurston's life titled Zora is My Name!. • Her other works include "Jonah's Gourd Vine" (1934),"Mules and Men" (1935),"Tell My Horse" (1937)
Death • During a period of financial and medical difficulties, Zora entered St. Lucie County Welfare Home, where she suffered a stroke and died of hypertensive heart disease on January 28, 1960 at age 69. • She was buried in an unmarked in the Garden of Heavenly Rest cemetery in Fort Pierce, Florida.
