Project “Poverty Alleviation in Tajikistan through education and non-formal training(PATENT)” Project goal: Dampening the issues of unemployment and poverty access to vocational training for a wide range of adult population Most significant change: Opportunities for employment and self-employment for unemployed poor adults were increased with the activities of this project Previous situation: Increasing number of unemployment and poor people among adult population of Sugd and Khatlon regions. The project offered non-skilled adult population short-term courses with a stipend and opportunity to get a demanded profession like class 3 seamstress making light clothes for women, accountant with computer skills, class 3 electric and gas welder, class 3 electrician to repair and maintain equipment up to 1000V. Activities to strengthen the system of VAE system including trainings for directors, teaching staff on effective management of vocational education institutions. Also they were provided with books, necessary equipments for training courses. Consultancy services on writing business plans and opening a small business with small grant opportunities for opening a small business on the contest basis. Activities that improved the image of updated VAE system in Tajikistan consisting of informing school graduates about the potential of VAE institutions and professions they offer, excursions and meeting with the graduates who told about their achievements in their professional life, etc. As of May 1, 2010 the ten partner organizations organized 46 short-term training courses on the selected professions, attended by 920 unemployed people. ASTI - Association of Scientific and Technical Intelligentsia of Tajikistan was established in 1995 and it is a non-government, non-profit organization promoting the development of democratic reforms and mitigation of poor people problems in Tajikistan through the effective use of potential of scientific and technical intelligentsia and strengthening the role of on-profit sector by implementation of social, informational, coordinating, educational, consulting programs and the programs of development. I work at ASTI as a Coordinator of Public Analysts’ Network. My expectation from the BLDC Workshop to establish partner contacts with other participants and to spread ASPBAE’s experience and BLDC workshop knowledge back in Tajikistan.
