  3. Birth Control • 5 main methods • Abstinence- • Refraining from having sex until married • Natrual Family Planning (NFP)- • Periodic abstinence while couple is most fertile • Barriers • Prevent gametes from coming in direct contact • Hormones • Keeps the body from releasing an egg • Withdrawl

  4. Abstinence- • The only 100% effective method of birth control and prevention of STD’s

  5. Natural Family Planning- • Periodic abstinence while the couple is most fertile. • Monitored by temperature of vagina • 7-10 day period • Extremely effective if done correctly

  6. Barrier devices- • 98% effective if USED CORRECTLY • Condoms • Diaphragms • Spermicides • Cervical cap

  7. Hormonal Methods- • These are also 98% effective if used correctly • Birth Control Pill • Depo-Provera- the shot • Nuva Ring- vaginal ring • Ortho Evra- the patch • Inter Uterine Device (IUD)

  8. Withdrawal Method Unprotected Sex without ejaculating inside the female. This is the worst form of birth control Does not prevent STD’s Does not prevent pregnancy as some of the pre-ejaculate contains sperm
