Village of Mayville New York History The Village of Mayville was incorporated in 1830. The population is 1,709 according to the 2010 census. The Pennsylvania Railroad built a station and pier at this location. Steamboats departing from this location, as well as the Jamestown Boat Landing were once the primary mode of transportation to the different communities around the lake. This is also the closest town to the Chautauqua Institute which attracts thousands of visitors annually.
