Lumen alarm & Lighting System Artem Aginskiy, Grayson Carr, Yinuo James Chen, Andrew McDowell
Our Product • Wireless control of room lighting • Automatic control of lights according to room occupancy, programmed alarms • Manual dimming • Energy efficient • Cost: $300 for control panel, $213 for light bulbs
Design • Two components • Control panel unit • Backlit LCD, pushbuttons, buzzer, motion detector • Alarm clock functionality • Standard electrical outlet • Light bulb units • High power LEDs • Standard light sockets
Status • Completed: • Wireless testing • LED Connections • Control panel hardware • Control panel menus • In Progress: • Integration and debugging
Previous Problems LED power supply too long Solution: Cut in half LEDs overheat Solution: Bought heat sinks, built a spotlight array
Recent Problems Real Time Clock not running: Solution: Created new control panel Pushbuttons not cycling through menu: Solution: Grounded, fixed coding error Debugging taking long time: Solution: Modularized code
Control Panel Unit • Alarm clock functionality • User-configurable settings • Clock with coin cell backup • LCD user interface • Serial connection to computer for debugging
Light Bulb Unit • Uses six high power LEDS • Interacts wirelessly with control unit • Flashes upon alarm • Plugs into standard light bulb socket • Dims LEDs through PWM (0 to 1.5W)
Light Bulb Test Unit • Serial connection to computer • LCD debugging output • Plugs into standard light bulb socket • Power: • 1.032 Watts at 0.12 Amps • 9.233 Watts at .98 Amps
Future Work • Multicolored LED light bulbs • Allow user adjustable colors • Powerline communication instead of wireless • Eliminates wireless interference • Improves indoor range • Photocell for ambient light sensing • Provide automated light dimming
