It weighs more than 230 billion basketballs! What is it?
What is it? ITS OUR GARBAGE! It weighs more than 32 million African elephants! It weighs more then six times as much as all the plastic bags in the United States.
What is RRR? It is... Re-use AND Recycle Reduce
How many landfills are there in B.C? There is at least one landfill in every city, town, and community. At least 350 landfills in B.C. counting cities and towns. Soon there will be more landfills in B.C. if they continue to grow from our laziness of disposing garbage.
The nearest landfill to us is the Bailey Landfill, it has more garbage span, then our school has land. How large is the average landfill? Landfill size as measured by tons per year, of waste disposed. There isn't really an average size, they all differ in size according to where they are placed, and how many people add to it. So the more garbage, the bigger the size.
Birds continue to die because of the pollution in the waters, from the improper garbage disposal, thanks to us. They also choke, causing death, just from trying to eat some food. What animals die because of inproper garbage disposal? Water creatures are most affected, by plastic bags, fishing nets, fishing lures, and pop can holders Forest animals are being driven out from construction, to come searching for new food, which happens to be your garbage
Put it in the compost • If still good, eat it later • Use it for the garden • If its leftovers, give it to your dog • Create art with it What could we do with wasted food?
Is there ways we can use garbage to our advantage? Yes! Recycling 4L milk jugs can be produced into fleece sweaters. Composting is a beneficial way to reduce food waste, and to give back to the environment. Like putting it in your garden. Used, and thrown away zip lock bags, can be melted down into a new plastic form, like a 2L pail bucket.
How much of the garbage is recyclable? 17 million Canadians (nearly 2/3 of us) have access to recycling. 56 million tons, or only 27 percent, is recycled Nearly all of the garbage is recyclable, its just the point of getting it to the right places, not landfills.
Tell them that not everywhere has a recycling policy and that it should be spread more strongly and made law. How can we impact large coorperations to RRR? We could explain to them that we are having a lot of issues with garbage and that it is become something that will always be remembered. First we would have to get a big write up about how bad our environment is getting, and then get it edited by a few people, send it in by letter, not computer, and then ask for a meeting. Even if we made a video of our daily life, with all the garbage in it, then we might open their eyes and see what's really going on. With some luck, they may accept and you may have a good conference with them to talk about RRR.
How much trash is generated? Every day, the average person contributes an average of 3.6 pounds a day, or 1,300 pounds a year. • The remaining trash is discarded and is made up of mostly paper products, plastics, yard waste and wood. The GVRD disposed of 1,107,102 tones of waste to the regional solid waste management system. Each year, we discard 160 million tons, or 320 billion pounds, or 145 billion kilograms of garbage! The nation all together produces more than 160 million tons of this stuff each year. • 56 million tons, or 27 percent, is either recycled (glass, paper products, plastic, metals) or composted (yard waste).
In excavated landfills, 40 year old news papers have been found in tact, and very legible. What happens to the trash at the landfill? After you put an object in landfill, you don’t think about it again. The fact is, long after you dispose of it, and a thousand garbage bags later, that garbage is still alive and well, hardly decomposed years later. A sad fact is that landfills are not designed to break down trash, just used to bury it. Lets just deal with our trash instead of covering it up. With a mixture of little oxygen, and little moisture, it takes a long time even for things to rot.
Large fines could be made if someone has littered or thrown away garbage on the ground. We could have a sort of holiday, where we all go out as a community and collect as much garbage as we can, and whoever comes enters their name in a draw, and they could win a car or something. What are some ways we could bring RRR to our community? Every week there is at least one garbage truck driving by to pick up all the garbage we leave outside at the end of our driveways. If we started doing that, only with wasted food that can be composted we could end up having less at the dumps. Signs could be made that says things like RAPM, Report All Pollution Makers. And a contact number would be below it. This would create good landfills, only with biodegradable things that wont last for years. But instead change into nice dark soil.
So many people DO actually RRR! why are we worrying about it now!? Its not like we can change any of the peoples choices of RRR, so why bother? We should reduce everything Not everything is recyclable We can’t do anything about the garbage now, from years ago. Diapers are NOT going to RRR, but CAN be changed but wont Were lazy why bother worrying about it? If we bother about it all our life, we will end up dieing from old age. Arguing Points RRR would help out a lot, but nobody really cares Throwing it away in the garbage is easier Your should be given money when recycling. Like bottles, paper, tin, etc. Throwing away things is easier. For recycling papers you have to pay for that little amount, while with garbage, you might as well throw it all away We are not super heroes, we can only demonstrate things Recycling takes too long to put it in the right bins. Garbage cans are easy. But with bottles, YOU get paid for recycling, why not papers?
Explain it to teachers, which then they can tell other teachers, which will talk to their students about it. How can we change garbage problems with a positive impact? Suggest good advantages to RRR, and disadvantages to throwing away everything to large cooperation's. Start influencing people to RRR and not throw away everything they use. Everybody wraps their garbage in garbage bags, which happen to be plastic, but if we can get some sort of material that will rot down in a matter of years, then we saved our world. Maybe suggest a making of a new product, in replacement of plastic that can be biodegradable, and that wont harm our environment.
What is the most efficient way to reduce garbage, with the most benifits? We have come to the conclusion that reducing, reusing, and recycling is the best way to reduce any amount of garbage. Take the responsibility to do something about it, take charge in the health of you and your planet. Almost everything can be recycled. Only YOU can make a difference.
