  2. Early Child Hood • Born April 28,1926 • Raised in Monroeville, Alabama • Youngest of five children • Daughter of Amasa Coleman Lee and Frances Cunningham Finch • Best friends with famous author Trueman Capote

  3. Education Attended • Transfer student at Oxford University • University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa • Huntingdon College Despite going to the three colleges she never got any sort of degree.

  4. Literary Works She wrote To Kill a Mockingbird in 1960, and also wrote various magazine essays. She started work on a second novel but it was never finished and published.

Major Life Events • Her friends pool together a years worth of wages for Lee so she can work on her writing with out distraction. • She travels with life long friend Trueman Capote to Kansas for research on his book In Cold Blood • She is awarded with Pulitzer Prize for her book To Kill a Mockingbird • Awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom

  7. Influences Segregation of the time helped influence Lee to write the novel. Events like unfair court cases in her home town are what lead to this. Even though Lee denies it, her book can be related to her own personal experience. The character Dill represents her friend and fellow writer Trueman Capote, while the court events in the book are based off her fathers court cases.
