Problem Statement Does the Amount of Sleep a person affect their reaction time? Hypothesis If the person gets more sleep, then their reaction time will be faster than when they have less sleep
Basic Concepts • Reaction Time – The time elapsing between the beginning of the application of a stimulus and the beginning of an organism’s reaction to it • Sleep – A period of rest for the body and mind; during which volition and consciousness are in abeyance and bodily functions are partially suspended; also described as a behavioral state, with characteristic immobile posture and diminished but readily reversible sensitivity to external stimuli
Procedure DO NOT FORCE VOLUNTEER TO SLEEP CERTAIN AMOUNT OF HOURS. IT IS CONSIDERED TORTURE.

RSquared • Because R squared value was extremely low, I cannot reject my null hypothesis • However, R squared values show whether or not they are correlated • Does not account for any other factors • Data is Insignificant
Individual Analysis • When individuals were analyzed, % negative correlation • Show a couple of examples • Subject 1:
Conclusions • Data overall is Insignificant • Cannot Reject Null Hypothesis • R Squared value is extremely low (8^-5) • Must be above .5 • However when looking at individuals…
Sources of Error • Too many independent Variables • First Reaction • Possible Effects in Sleep Patterns
Improvements • Average of 5 tests for 1 result • Fewer Volunteers, More Results • Take into account physical balances/ability
Extensions • Many different variables to test effectiveness of sleep; • Activities • sleeping habits • elevation of sleep • level of sleep
