In 1962, faculty of medicine started as an affiliate to Alex Un. By 1969, three faculties constituted a branch of Alex Un. In 1972 presidential decree of TU foundation was issued. The university now has 13 faculties, all in Tanta city.
No of undergraduates: 84981 No of Post-Graduates: 11760 Number of staff members: 3491 Number of administrative: 5745 Despite of these numbers and Although the University has been established 33 years ago, there was No system to evaluate the education quality .
Due to the economic changes, rising unemployment and competitions, The University realized the need of a monitoring system about academic performance to ensure quality and to point out the areas of weakness. However, neither the resources nor the methodology were clearly available.

Upon the availability of the QAAP sub projects, the University decidedto develop its Strategic Plan for the coming five years (2005-2010) in order to enhance the quality in the university and to prepare for accreditation.
