  4. Reasons why we flipped out! • Student centered learning • Increased class size with a diverse learners • Not enough one on one time with students. • More content, less time. • Desire to improve student understanding and engagement. • Blended learning allowed us to reach students of all levels. • Preparing students for an independent learning environment at the post-secondary level. • Promotes peer learning • Students who are frequently missing class have access to lectures at home.

  5. Top Ten Tools for Flipping the Classroom • Quia • Dropbox • Edmodo • MS Expressions Screen Capture • iTunes • http://www.hippocampus.org/ • PowerPoint • http://www.learnerstv.com/ • Poll Everywhere • Moodle

  6. Hurdles to Flipping! • Flipping takes more time than you think, but it saves time in the long run! • Don’t be afraid to beg, borrow, steal • Expect resistance from students • Crawl before you flip – start small and choose a couple of lessons to start with • Plan for extra class time

  7. Flipping is great for Mastery Learning • Some refer to Mastery Learning as advanced flipped learning. Mastery Learning enables students to take responsibility for their own learning. • Mastery Learning allows students to work at their own pace through the curriculum. When they complete a unit they must demonstrate that they have learned the content by taking an exit assessment. If students score less than 85% on these exit assessments, they must go back and re-learn those concepts they missed and retake the exam.
