  2. Key Facts Iodine is an indicator for starch. Normally, iodine is a reddish-brown color, but in the presence of starch, it changes to a deep purple color. Iodine is a small molecule. Its molecular mass is 380.7 Da.

  3. Key Facts Starch is a large molecule. It is made of hundreds of glucose molecules, each weighing more than 180 Da. Dialysis tubing will only allow molecules smaller than 14, 000 Da to pass through its membrane.
