  5. Developing activities & strategies that lead to meaningful learning • From blowing balloons to Mexico City Book Fair: Taking into account the student and her learning environment. • Breaking barriers: Talking to students about what works for them.

  6. Helping students take learning into their own hands • Learning takes place in many different settings. • College is not the place where you come to learn answers, but it is a place where you come to learn how to ask questions. • Students need to rely on other students, instructors, resources, etc. to learn to obtain and give knowledge. • Being an independent learner requires a lot of training and a lot of help from others.

  7. Group learning • Group Activities in class. • Community activities that make learning meaningful: (Lacma visit, Murals project visit, HS exchange, film festivals, Library project, etc.)

  8. The Classroom as part of the total LAVC experience • The classroom as a center of information where students learn about the resources available to them: • WC • Career Transfer Center • TAP Program • STARS Program • Library • Lab, Gym, etc. Class speakers: Previous students who are at UCLA, USC, CSUN.
