Welcome to Mrs. Lane’s Classroom You may be wondering…
Will this teacher treat me fairly? yes - absolutely -surely – always IT’S A LOCK!
GRADING PLAN • Shorter assignments and class activities will count as 30% of your grade. I will drop the lowest eligible grade in this category each nine weeks. • Longer assignments that measure proficiency (like compositions, projects, etc.) will count as the other 70% of your grade. The grades for these assignments will not be dropped.
Guideline #1: BE ON TIME. Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned Ten-Minute Notebook topic when the tardy bell rings.

Guideline #2: BE PREPARED. Bring ALL books and materials (except the Ten-Minute Notebook, which stays here at all times) to class and take them with you when you leave.
Guideline #3: BE COURTEOUS. Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity.
Guideline #4: Follow directions the first time they are given.
Guideline #5 Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the WVHS handbook.
Special Guideline: Let’s EXPECT THE BEST together!
Following Guidelines will result in . . . • Verbal acknowledgement • A stress-free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere
Not Following Guidelines will result in . . . • 1st • Warning and documentation • 2nd • Action Plan, Parental Contact, and 30 minute detention • 3rd • Disciplinary Referral

Guideline Infraction Notice • Read it. • Sign it. • Keep it until the end of class.
It’s all about CHOICES. Please CHOOSE to make this a great semester!
Entering the Room • Please enter quietly and place your backpack on the wall where the window is. • Get your Ten-Minute Notebook from the cabinet. Have a seat. • Review the agenda. • Begin the notebook assignment.
When you are tardy . . . • Enter quietly. • If you have a note from another teacher: Place excuse in the basket on on the table to the left of my desk. • If you do not have a note: Get a red “Tardy Pass” from the table to the left of my desk. Go to Attendance. • When you return, place the “Tardy Pass” in the basket, then have a seat and take out your materials.
Passes • One student from each class will record all passes in a notebook. • If, in an emergency, you must use a pass, see that person. Be back within five minutes and disrupt as little as possible. • Those students who manage to avoid using a pass during the nine-week period will earn an extra 100 as a Pass Management Grade. (See me if you have a Medical Pass.)
Getting Your Attention I will . . . • Stand in front of the class. • Raise my hand. • Wait for everyone to be quiet. • Begin speaking.
Paper Heading • MLA Format • Place on all assignments.
After an Absence • Check the Ten-Minute Notebook and Class Activities files. A student in each class is responsible for keeping them current. • Copy the instructions. Retrieve any handouts. • Sign the log in both files. • Complete the assignment ASAP according to WV school policies (number of days missed plus two days to turn in work)
Student Responsibility Card (Pink Slip)This is for students who do not have the assignment. • Fill it out. • Sign and date it. • Turn it in with the homework papers.
Finish Classwork Early • Work on unfinished ENGLISHassignment. • Read a book or magazine. • Review vocabulary words. • Memorize a poem for POETRY OUT LOUD. • Play Apples to Apples or a similar language-based game. “What do I do next?”
Scheduled Check out • Please let me know as you enter the classroom. • I will be at the door. • Quietly raise your hand to get my attention. • Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time. • If it is an emergency, quickly get my attention and I will assist you.
Turning in Papers • Place your paper in the black wire basket on the table to the left of my desk.
Classroom Discussions • PLEASE participate. • I want to hear what you have to say. • Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. • If your question is off the topic, or if your question probably applies only to you, write it down and ask later. • If you have a question about your grade on an assignment, refer to the rubric, then put your concerns in writing and turn it in at the basket.
Moving Around the Room • You must ask permission. • Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency. • We will have built-in BRAIN BREAKS led by students.
Class Dismissal • The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. • Do not start packing up prior to the bell. • Wait until I finish and officially dismiss you with: “EXPECT THE BEST!”
