I was just checking up on some flow-switch samples we’ll be receiving, and went to the Cole Parmer material compatibility website http://www.coleparmer.com/Chemical-Resistance • I checked PVC against ethylene glycol and it received an A, (as did CPVC but that is to be expected), but then checked Propylene glycol, and it received only a C, which states; Moderate Effect, not recommended for continuous use. Softening, loss of strength, swelling may occur. • (but with a sidenote that it is satisfactory up to 72ºF/22ºC) • This was the same for PVC and CPVC, which I know is commonly used in this application. We should keep this in mind when making recommendations, that PVC/CPVC is not suitable for Propylene glycol (no point splitting hairs and saying okay for cooling but not heating) • I will check up on the plastic used inside the SCM chillers, to see what the material is and if there should be concern. • Pex was not listed by name, or by it’s generic (cross linked) HDPE, but other websites state it is suitable for EGW or PGW. • Just some more information for our reference toolbox.
