In a galaxy far, far away, there is a planet called Perfecta that is identical to Earth in every wayaccept one. The laws of Physics that apply on Earth also apply on Planet Perfecta. The gravitational field of Perfecta is the same as Earth’s. The hydrology (water) cycle is the same as Earth’s. The Law of Conservation of Energy is the same on Perfecta as it is on Earth (but you knew that be cause the Law of Conservation of Energy is true everywhere in the universe). The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, it simply changes form. So if you start with a certain amount of energy in a system, it stays the same. It can shift around to different types, but the total is the same! Kinetic Energy (motion) Gravitational Potential Energy (height) Thermal Energy (heat) Radiant Energy (light) Elastic Potential Energy (stretching or squishing) 1 The Restless Life of Ach Two O: How Energy Moves Water around on the planet Perfecta.
The only way that Perfecta is different than Earth is based on Energy Transfers. All Work transfers to Energy. All Energy transfers to Work. On Earth, when energy is transferred, some of it is ‘lost’ - Since the Law of Conservation of Energy says Energy can never be created or destroyed, earthlings have it wrong when they say Energy is ‘lost’. What they mean is that Energy is changed to a form that Earthlings cannot use easily (like engine heat or friction). On Planet Perfecta, no energy is ever changed to a form that Perfectants can’t use - no energy is ‘lost’ on Perfecta. When Work is done on Ach Two O (an object) , the energy stored in Ach Two O (an object) is equal to the Work done on it. When Work is done by Ach Two O (an object) , the energy released is equal to the work done by Ach Two O (an object) . On Planet Perfecta, the water cycle is based on energy transferring between only two types of energy: Gravitational Potential Energy And Kinetic Energy 2 The Restless Life of Ach Two O: How Energy Moves Water around on the planet Perfecta.
