Revised AEPSC Proposal • Option 1 • Construct a new 148 mile, single circuit 345kV line from Laredo Lobo to Rio Bravo to North Edinburg, utilizing 2-954 ACSR conductor on double-circuit capable structures, and a 24 ohm 3600 amp series capacitor • Energized reconductor (live-line) for the existing Lon Hill-Nelson Sharpe-Ajo-Rio Hondo 345kV line and Lon Hill-North Edinburg 345kV line to 1988/2426 MVA normal/emergency rating • The incremental cost of the energized reconductor (live-line) is estimated to be about $15M for each line for a total incremental cost $30M • The total cost for this option is estimated to be $500 million. • The Del Sol station and Del Sol-Frontera 345 kV line has been removed from the AEPSC proposal
Project Options selected for detail studies • Based on the initial voltage stability and thermal transfer study results (for 2016 & 2020) and cost estimates, the nine options studied were narrowed down to the following options for detail studies: • Option 1 - AEPSC proposal (with energized reconductor) • Option 5D – Construct approximately ~ 200 mile, 345kV transmission line from Pawnee to North Edinburg double Ckt., utilizing 2-954 ACSR conductor with 50% Series Compensation on each circuit • Option 6 - Construct approximately 220 mile, +/- 400 kV 1000 MW classic HVDC line from Pawnee to Loma Alta, Two 345/138kV 500 MVA autos at Loma Alta and a new 14 mile, 345 kV from LaPalma to Loma Alta
2016 Study Results for N-1 + G-1 LRGV Load MW Options 1 is limited by voltage stability, no thermal limits * Load forecasts including the 250 MW new load in Brownsville
2016 Study Results for N-1-1 LRGV Load MW * Load forecasts including the 250 MW new load in Brownsville
Thermal Overloads in 2016 with/without Option 1 * Base case overload Overload highlighted in green have projects identified in 5YTP
Thermal Overloads in 2016 with/without Option 5D * Base case overload Overload highlighted in green have projects identified in 5YTP
Thermal Overloads in 2016 with/without Option 6 * Base case overload Overload highlighted in green have projects identified in 5YTP
Comparison of the alternatives * Initial ERCOT cost estimates ** Projects not approved by RPG + Limited by voltage stability, no thermal limit
Work in progress • Evaluating 500 kV or 765 kV alternative for Option 5D • Update/ refinethe cost estimates • Complete the study report with final recommendation by August 25th.
