WHAT IS PLAY? Erikson, 1950 “A function of the ego, an attempt to synchronize the bodily and social process with the self”
According to the theorists Rubin, Fein, and Vandenberg (1983) an activity must have five essential characteristics before it can be described as play. It must be : 1) intrinsically motivated i.e. done for the satisfaction of doing it 2) Freely chosen by the participants- not the caregivers of teachers 3) Pleasurable-fun 4) Nonliteral i.e. involving some degree of makebelieve or distortion of reality 5) Actively engaged in by the player i.e. the child must be involved physically or psychologically
WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT PLAY? HUAR HUAR HUAR ADEH ADEH…
COMPLIMENT TAG • This game comes from Miami, Florida • Number of play: 8 to 10 children • Time: 20 minutes • Objective - To give children a chance to give and receive compliments in playful situations -To give children a chance to hear good things about themselves
PROCEDURE OF PLAY 1. This game is a variation of freeze tag. Players must stay within the boundaries. Have one person start the game by volunteering to be It. 2. When the person who is It approaches another player, if the player can give It a compliment, It must choose another person to tag before he/she can attempt to tag the first person again.
3. If a person cannot think of a compliment before he/she is tagged, he/she is frozen. 4.The frozen person must stay frozen until another player touches the frozen one and gives him/her a compliment . 5. When any three people are frozen at the same time, It wins and a new person is chosen to become It.
BENEFIT 1) Physical - gross and fine motor skills develop 2) Emotional -fun, happy, and so on 3) Social skills - play with words and way of expressing ideas 4) Moral -learn how to give compliment to others 5) Cognitive -strategies of “it” to frozen three players
