  1. Farming Clean Energy Conference November 5, 2008 Danny Johnson

  2. Current Issues • Energy Efficiency & Demand Response • Renewable Energy Resources • Distributed Generation • Fossil-Fired Generation

  3. Sample of SCE Energy Efficiency Programs • Express Efficiency Program • Fixed rebate amount for prescribed energy efficient equipment • Up to 100% of the measure cost per site, up to $1.8 million per site • Based on itemized existing equipment vs. replacement equipment • Standard Performance Contract Program • Calculated incentive amount for retrofit or specialized energy efficient equipment • Up to 50% of the cost for each measure type, up to $2.4 million per site • Based on annual kWh savings by measure type ($.05 lighting, $.08 other, $.14 AC&R) • Industrial Energy Efficiency Program • Modeled after SPC, incorporates a larger, holistic view of energy usage in integrated manufacturing and production processes • Same rebate incentive structure as SPC program • Savings by Design • New Construction design assistance up to $150,000 for exceeding Title-24 by 10% • Whole building approach: Preferred method to optimize fully integrated design • Systems approach: For specific energy systems such as; HVAC, lighting, etc. • Many other programs targeting different types of customers

  4. Technologies with Significant Impact • Industrial • Compressed Air Systems • Variable Frequency Drives • Refrigeration Controls • Electric Submersible Pumps • Chillers • Pump Off Controllers • Agricultural and Pumping • Pump Replacements and Rehabilitation • Variable Frequency Drives • Dairy applications • Water pumping • Irrigation • High Bay Fluorescent Fixtures • T-8/T-5 Fluorescent Lamps and Ballasts • Premium Efficiency Motor Replacements • Energy Management Systems (EMS)/SCADA

  5. SCE’s Demand Response Portfolio Reliability–Based (Emergency) Programs • Base Interruptible Program (TOU-BIP) for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers • Large Power Interruptible (I-6) for Industrial customers >500 kW • Rate is scheduled to be eliminated Dec 31, 2008 • Summer Discount Plan (SDP) for Residential and C&I customers • Agricultural and Pumping Interruptible (AP-I) for pumping customers Price–Response Programs • Demand Bidding Program (DBP) for C&I customers • Capacity Bidding Program (CBP) for C&I customers • Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) Programs for C&I customers • Demand Response Contracts Technical Assistance and Technology Incentives (TA&TI)

  6. What You Can Do • Education and training for key personnel • SCE Account reps are your trusted energy advisor • SCE Energy Centers seminars, classes, and displays • Identify opportunities to save energy • Walk-thru surveys • Energy audits • TA&TI 3rd party engineering firm, where appropriate • Develop action list for EE and DR • Participate in incentive and rebate programs • Energy Efficiency • Demand Response • California Solar Initiative (CSI)
