  1. School Nurses and District Nurses Are you ready to be a champion for young and adult carers? We are providing a one day training opportunity for you and/or your colleagues to become a champion for young and adult carers.The day will provide you with the latest policy and evidence to help you support carers and influence decision makers.Young and adult carers will be involved in the training day and will provide you with their experiences of support.The day will also provide the opportunity for networking and developing solution focussed approaches to support carers.You will have the opportunity to understand how district nurses and school nurses can work together to better support carers.To book a place for:26 March, 10:30 – 3:30Liverpool John Moores University Contact: Fiona.hill@dh.gsi.gov.uk Did you know? Young and adult carers provide regular and ongoing care and emotional support to a family member who has a physical or mental illness, a disability, and/or misuses substances. Carers may be supporting a spouse, parent, sibling or other family member. Carers may be hidden and undertaking inappropriate caring responsibilities. Issues facing young carers Poor public health outcomes including: • School absences, underachievement and lowered aspirations • Many young carers experience bullying • Fear of being taken into care or losing a parent • Increased risk of safeguarding issues Issues facing adult carers • Social isolation, poor self-esteem • Neglecting own health and wellbeing • Difficulty in sleeping and concentrating • Poor diet and financial hardship • Reluctance to seek help
