Do Now – 3 minutes • Take a seat, and get out your folder and a writing utensil. • At your table, collect everyone’s homework in three piles and give to Hannah once completed: • Syllabus (signed) • Diagnostic • Begin the Do Now tasks (halfsheet)
Today’s Objective • Today, you will be to begin brainstorming topics for your research paper by working with a group to gather and combine knowledge about your neighborhood, and go over the basics of computer usage at Town.
Borough Groups – What’s yours? • Brooklyn • Bronx • Upper Manhattan • Lower Manhattan • Harlem • Queens
Brainstorm Instructions • 6 minutes
Laptop Instructions • Be VERY careful. • Use family log-ons. • If your laptop is malfuctioning, quietly raise your hand and Hannah will dismiss you to retrieve another laptop. • When returning laptops, make sure: • The laptop # faces out • The laptop is in the correct location (#s should match) • The laptop is PLUGGED IN!
We are using the laptops… • You’ll be dismissed by group to get laptops • Sit with your group when you come in the classroom • Log on using the instruction sheet • Go to the class website and then raise your hand to show that you have found it • Begin searching using “Google” for the “Learned” column in your handout
On the Laptops… • 4 minutes: Visit www.btresearch.wikispaces.com , raise your hand, then start researching your borough • 10 minutes: Work with your group to fill in your L column on KWL • 10 minutes: Share out, add to charts • 5 minutes: Exit Slip
Closure • Turn in your exit slip • Log off / Shut down computer, push in chair • For Monday: • Start looking for research about your borough (newspapers, magazines, online stuff, etc.) and BRING IT IN! Bring in SIGNED SYLLABUS if you haven’t already • We will talk about reliability on Monday and then have a full day for researching on Wednesday • Check your email to make sure you are getting our messages! (There may be a secret password!)
