Ch.23 Atmospheric Moisture • Humidity • Cloud Formation & Types • Types of Precipitation
HUMIDITY The amount of moisture in the air.
Cloud Formation & Types • Stratus: Low over cast clouds with no specific form • Cirrus: Thin, wispy, feather like clouds. High in the atmosphere • Cumulus: puffy low level clouds
Types of Precipitation • Rain: Liquid Precipitation • Snow: Most common form of solid precipitation • Sleet: Ice pellets • Hail: Ice lumps
Ch.4 Weather • Air Masses, Types of Fronts • Cyclones = Low Pressure = storms • Reading a Weather Map
Air Masses & Fronts • Air Mass: A large body of air throughout which temperature and moisture content are similar • Warm Front: Advancing warm air mass replaces colder air • Cold Front: Moving mass of cold air pushes beneath warm air
Cyclones=Low Pressure=Storm Cyclones: Low pressure centers, characterized by rotating winds. LOW PRESURE REGION
Reading a Weather Map H – high pressure L – low pressure Blue lines with triangles are cold fronts and red lines with semicircles represent warm fronts.
