Lessons in Leadership: Nehemiah Case Study • A man saw a need, rose up, captured a vision, laid a plan, and mobilized others to join him to the cause; • He was one of the captive and brought to Susa from Jerusalem; • Nehemiah served as cup bearer of king Artaxerxes; • But still a number of Israelites still in Jerusalem under oppression (Nehemiah 5:1-7).
Lessons in Leadership: Nehemiah Case Study • We cannot separate GOOD LEADERSHIP from CLEAR VISION (6:15 complete the WALL in 52 days, and 9-13TRANSFORMATION); • Clarity: Communicating and “Spirit” of the VISION in management; • Lasting leaders feel the burden of ANEED before they receive THE VISION to meet it (1:1-4); • Prayers internalizes the BURDEN, deepening our OWNERSHIP of a NEED (God -> me); • Leaders act from a deep sense of RESPONSIBILITY (The greatest law and great commandment); • Leaders are fulfilled by EMPOWERING OTHERS than by DOING THE WORK THEMSELVES (3:v1-32).
