Originally: Keep the Gorges Gorgeous • Planned a hike/cleanup project in the gorges to make students on campus at Cornell aware of the natural areas close at hand. • Wanted to encourage spending time outdoors and taking advantage of natural scenes • Wanted to explore recreation activities such as rock and tree climbing. • Also wanted to integrate educational component about local ecosystem and geography.

  3. Oxymoron of the day:Bureaucratic efficiency • Found pre-existing event: Day of Demeter • Emailed contact listed • Lead to contact within the Interfraternity Council • Lead to 6 Vice Pres. Of IFC • Each had a separate site for clean-up • Only two emailed back and that was just to confirm the date

Cornell Outdoor Education • Emailed Climbing Coordinator: Dr. Mark Holton • Got in contact with Todd Miner head of COE • Todd acted as main contact and advised what gorges were best, as well as suggesting a date, and providing publicity • Helped to plan long term goals for the project in order to build a framework for repeats in the future.

Come on a hike with Cornell Outdoor Education, BioNB 321 State of The Planet, and anyone else who wants to come, as we celebrate the natural beauty of Ithaca’s Gorges and the arrival of spring.
